Admiral Costumes feature in Vintage Life Magazine

The latest issue of Vintage Life Magazine is out today and contains a superb article by Amanda Moorhouse from Lipstick & Curls featuring four pages of clothing from our original retro 70’s range.

The scene is set against a backdrop of a gorgeous 70’s retro caravan supplied by Ella May Vintage and shows a group of friends having fun on a picnic in the countryside.

The outdoor shots show a couple dressed in typical 70’s leisure clothing, flared jeans and Indian print dresses with headbands and hair authentically styled by Lipstick & Curls.

Views inside the 70’s styled caravan illustrate more patterned shirts, animal skin and denim waistcoats and sequinned floaty Indian style kaftan.

A suede belted mini dress worn with chiffon sleeved blouse makes a fabulous combination and was modelled by Lisa Bridge currently starring in The Wizard of Oz in the West End and who is soon to go on tour with the new show 9 – 5 in September.

Admiral Costumes are delighted to have provided original 70’s clothing for this article which can be seen in issue 21 (August) on pages 40 – 44.

Original 70’s retro clothing is available to hire from our store, so do give us a call on 01908 372504

Authentic style clothing for 20th century plays and dramas

Many of our wonderful costumes are used for musicals, dramas and plays set in various eras throughout the 20th century.

In the 1900’s we have lots of plays like Pygmalion, My Fair Lady, Oliver and many others, all requiring long dresses, frock and tail coats, breeches and cloth caps.

In the 1930’s – 40’s plays like The Importance of being Earnest , The Happiest days of Our Lives and Miss Marple require tweed suits and other various specialist period clothing items and props from that era and Oh What a Lovely war requires military and wartime outfits.

West Side Story is set in the 60’s as is Summer Holiday, Grease and Hi-Di-Hi.  Shows set in the 50’s and 60’s require brightly coloured full skirted dresses, trilby hats and net petticoats.

Our clothing ranges from nightwear and smoking jackets to day wear, evening dresses, ball gowns, day suits and morning suits.

We have a fantastic selection of authentic period styles to choose from, so do give us a call and come along and see what we have to offer.

The Importance of Being Earnest

Foppish characters like Algernon Moncrieff form Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, require loud outlandish clothing to bring the flamboyancy of the character to the fore.

Loud check suits, colourful cravats and frilly shirts are ideal for this character with a costume change into smoking jacket and pastel cravat for style.

The importance of Being Earnest is a farcical comedy with a very witty dialogue, set in late victorian London and can be seen this week at Leighton Buzzard Theatre, performed by the Leighton Buzzard drama group

Admiral Costumes are delighted to have provided some of the costumes for this production and have an excellent range of flamboyant wear for other characters of this type.
