Costumes for a Murder Mystery

Everyone loves a murder mystery party and whether you are getting together with a few friends over themed drinks and a meal or staging a community event, costumes are vital for setting the characters in scene.

A murder mystery party offers some light hearted entertainment and dressing up in character is all part of the fun.  It can be tricky sometimes to acquire the necessary clothing garments which are often quite specific and may form part of a vital clue in the game.

Whatever character you are given, whether you are the murderer, a writer or gardener we will most likely have a costume or accessories to suit. The game could be set in any era and usually involves a set of eccentric characters that will require suitably colourful attire.

We have costumed some wonderful characters like Lady Estelle Diamond with her evening dress, large hat and fur, Anne Dover with her beaded evening dress, boa and turban, Mini Hoover in her cleaner overalls and hairnet and Ruben Ratner a Jewish jewellery salesman, with a large overcoat with watches and jewels on the inside.

From a silver tie pin, to silk handkerchiefs, coloured trilby’s to tweed suits and old gardener’s hats, we have all kinds of wonderful props and accessories to put you in character straight away.

If you’ve been invited to a murder mystery party this season, don’t panic, just give us a call, I am sure we can help.

Costumes for a Pagan Handfasting

Handfasting is an old custom dating back in time to the ancient celts. It was originally a ceremony for a trial marriage which would last for a year and a day.

The ceremony includes gently wrapping cords around the bride and groom’s clasped hands and tying a knot, symbolically binding the couple together.

The romantic cord tying could be included into any marriage ceremony and we are delighted to have provided four bespoke ‘page boy’ costumes for a pagan wedding which will be held on Handfasting day on the 6th July.

For pagan style costumes or bespoke garments, please call 01908 372504

Authentic World War II costumes in A Chequer Board of Nights

A chequer Board of Nights is a new short film telling the amazing story of one man’s experience as a pilot during World War II, flying Lancaster Bombers to and from Germany during the blitz.

With fantastic attention to detail, this film includes authentic costumes from the period, facts based on a true account and the use of a Lancaster bomber aircraft.

We are truly delighted to be associated with this film by Checker Samwich  and are extremely excited about seeing the finished version.

Admiral Costumes have a great range of costumes from this period including military uniforms, nurses and civilian wear.

The Jester

I love the jester character with his brightly coloured clothes and zany ways and April Fool’s Day makes a great excuse to wear a jesters hat or play a practical joke.

The Fool or jester originated as an entertainer for the nobility in medieval and tudor times. A good jester would sing songs, play music, tell stories, perform acrobatics, juggling and magic.

The fool would often wear a hat with ass ears attached and this character appears a lot in Shakespeare. Although outwardly a fool, the jester was extremely intelligent and often advised the king giving him advice and bad news he didn’t want to hear disguised as a story or joke.

The jester is a sign of fun and the unexpected and you see it in Tarot and playing cards as the joker.

“A fool must now and then be right by chance”

We have some great jester outfits for hire and often put together bespoke jester costumes to specific requirements.
