The Dolls House



It is always a joy to put together a small set of specific costumes for evocative plays like The Doll’s House.

With characters named Torvald, Krogstad and Dr Rank, it is a delight to imagine them and the kind of clothing they would wear and easy to select a suitable costume ensemble from our massive stock of period clothing items.

The Dolls House is set in Norway in 1879 with main character Nora secretly borrowing a large sum of money to aid her husband recover from an illness. Her husband Torvald calls her his doll and upon his recovery becomes a bank director.

Imagine Nora’s horror when she discovers that the first task Torvald undertakes in his new role, is to fire Nils Krogstadt, the man from whom she had borrowed the money.

World Book Day - help! I need a costume

World Book Day is on the 1st of March and many schools take the opportunity to encourage the pupils to dress up as their favourite book character.

This may be fun for the teachers and schools, but can be a nightmare for parents - stop worrying now!

We have masses of choice of costume for purchase - simply browse and order on line, or give us a call with your request or telephone order and collect in store.

For those with more unusual requests, or who want to use their own imagination to create a wonderful costume from their favourite book, then come along to our store in Newton Longville.  We have thousands of costume items; cloaks, wigs, fat suits, hats, dresses and much more available for hire at very reasonable rates. 

Orders for bespoke costumes can be taken as long as there is enough lead time!

Where can I find great costumes for Calamity Jane?



Admiral Costumes has some great costumes for Calamity Jane, from fringed cowboy jackets and Stetsons for the men and Calamity, through to show girl dresses for the theatre scenes, lots of gingham and dungarees for the chorus, glamorous 50’s ball gowns for the party and 50’s style wedding dresses.


Calamity Jane is a tomboy living in the backwater town of Deadwood.  The story is set in 1950’s Chicago, after a mix up in a talent competition in Deadwoods saloon theatre. Calamity heads to Chicago City to obtain the glamorous actress Adelaide Adams for Deadwood, but returns by mistake with her maid Katie Brown.

Katie and Calamity form a friendship and Katie falls for Lieutenant Denny Gilmartin, which upsets Calamity. After a bust up at the ball, Calamity realises that she is in love with Wild Bill Hickock after all and they all live happily ever with a double wedding.
  
Other characters in the musical include, Harry Miller, Francis Fryer, Susan Miller and Rattlesnake.
