Carousel

Carousel is the popular musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein, written in 1945.

It tells the story of Billy Bigelow and his romance with mill worker Julie Jordan. 

They lose their jobs over the affair and Billy attempts a robbery to support Julie and the baby.

A secondary plot follows another mill worker, Connie Pepperidge and her romance with fisherman Enoch Snow.

We have some gorgeous costumes for this show for all the main female characters, Julie, Carrie, Nettie, Mullin and Louise with lots of lovely dresses and hats with gloves and accessories to choose from.

For the male characters we have check trousers and striped top for Billy, Pea jacket and stripe shirt for Jigger, braided suits for Enoch and the other working men and a frock coat and Stetson for Bascombe.

We also have plenty of nautical tops and caps, gingham dresses shawls and petticoats  for the chorus scenes.

Costumes for shows in Milton Keynes and the UK

The first few months of this year has been a busy time for us with costumes being prepared for an amazingly wide variety of shows.

We have supplied costumes for several pantomimes including Old King Cole, Dick Whittington and Dorothy and her friends. These shows utilised a range of costumes, from kings to pirates, Dame Dorothy to an Oompa Loompa and princes to villager children.

It was fun to put together a set of gorgeous oriental and jewel coloured items for Hot Mikado, with the three little maids wearing Chinese dresses for one scene and 50’s dresses in bright colours for another. Katasha looked marvellous in a wicked stepmother style oriental gown with Chinese sleeves. The boys looked great in bright coloured suits and ties.

Bugsy Malone has been a popular theme with pinstriped suits and gangster hats and gorgeous 1920’s style elegant dresses, furs and cloche hats being used to recreate Fat Sam’s club.

A wide variety of costumes were put together for Dr Faustus ranging from Augustus the Great to a chorus of monks. The drama teachers were amazed that we had such a varied stock and could come up with anything they asked for, from a battered woollen cardigan to a red dress with belt and leopard print shoes.

Twist and Shout took us back to the early 60’s with lots of pastel shift dresses, an ageing Teddy Boy and some stylish Beatles style jackets, while Beauty and the Beast gave us the opportunity to get out the glamorous ball gowns, cloaks and facemasks for the masked ball scene, with costumes created for Monsieur D’Arque, the baker and professor.
