The Worst Princess

Milton Keynes retailer John Lewis and Barnardos children’s charity are working together to provide story telling sessions throughout the summer both in store and in schools.

The worst Princess by Anna Kemp, has been voted the favourite children’s book in this area and excerpts from the book were read and performed at the launch of this worthwhile initiative.

The story tells of Princess Sue who has waited forever for a prince to come rescue her from the boredom of her tower, but, when he finally arrives, she doesn't get the happy ending she's been expecting. Instead of the freedom and adventure she longs for, her prince puts her in a penthouse... in another tower. After all, dragon-bashing and armour is strictly for boys only. But Sue won't give up her happily ever after so easily! When she spies a ferocious dragon she promptly invites him to tea and the two of them team up to show the prince what's what and ride off into the sunset.

THE WORST PRINCESS is a princess tale with a twist: filled with rhyme, unexpected friendships, and gender stereotype-free adventure!

We are delighted to have provided costumes of the book characters for the launch.

Blackadder by Adhoc Theatre

“While the setting was minimal the costumes were the opposite, they were rich, colourful and entirely in keeping with the Elizabethan period. The extravagance of the costumes enhanced this production and made a stunning visual impact.”

This was the NODA review of Blackadder, produced in June by Adhoc Theatre Company and we are delighted to have had the opportunity to provide most of the costumes for this production.

Adhoc not only did a great job of bringing all the characters to life but made them very reminiscent of the TV series.

A thoroughly enjoyable and hilarious evening of entertainment by Adhoc Theatre company who have also produced some fabulous photos from the show which can be viewed on our website.

Lend me a Tenor

Lend me a Tenor is an uproarious musical comedy full of mistaken identities and romance.

It’s 1934, and the world’s greatest tenor Tito Merelli has come to Cleveland, Ohio, to save its Grand Opera Company by singing Otello. When he is unexpectedly incapacitated, Max, the Opera Director’s meek assistant, is given the daunting task of finding a last-minute replacement. Chaos ensues – including a scheming soprano, a tenor-struck ingénue, a jealous wife and the Cleveland Police department.

Costumes add hilarity to the plot with identical costumes for three Otello’s, and similar day outfits and evening wear for the Three Anna’s who play the ex-wives of Tito.

IODS are proud to be the first amateur company to perform this musical and we are delighted to have had the opportunity to costume this production.

Jane Eyre – Bronte era costumes

Charlotte Bronte tells the life story of ten year old orphan, Jane Eyre who goes to live with her cruel and wealthy aunt, Mrs Reed.

Jane is sent to Lowood school and is poorly treated by the head Mr Brockelhurst. She teaches there for two years before accepting a place as governess to a spoilt little French girl called Adele at Thornfield House and falls in love with landowner, Mr Rochester……………………

We have put together a delightful set of costumes for the stage version of this book, from Jane in her drab grey governess garb, the orphans in their shabby clothes and over- pinny’s, to the wealthy Mrs Reed, the stern Mr Brockelhurst and the handsome Mr Rochester.

With lots of petticoats, shawls, capes and bonnets we have created a really authentic look for this 19th century drama.

Tread the Boards drama group will be performing this superb tale on 12th, 13th and 14th June at the Chrysalis Theatre in Milton Keynes.

Blackadder

Blackadder has become a popular choice for drama groups throughout the UK wishing to capture the humour and emulate the hugely popular BBC 1980’s sitcom.

Written by Richard Curtis and Ben Elton, Blackadder is set in England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.  The main character, Edmund, Lord Blackadder spends his time trying to win favour with the queen, but his schemes are aided and more often hindered by his less than intelligent servant Baldrick and the rather silly Lord Percy.

In the stage version, a young Kate disguises herself as ‘Bob’ to avoid her father’s wishes and ends up in court with Edmund. Edmund falls in love with ‘him’ and gets hilariously confused. He is eventually beaten by Lord Flashheart who elopes with Kate, dashing Edmunds plans.

A visit by Lord and Lady Whiteheart, the puritanical aunt and uncle of Edmund, coincides with a drinking competition with hilarious results.

We have some great costumes for this play and are delighted to be providing costumes for Adhoc Theatre’s production on 12 and 13th June.
