Based on the distinguished novel by E L Doctorow, Ragtime is not only a very powerful portrait of American life at the turn of the 19th century, but also a relevant tale for today.
The musical intertwines the stories of three extraordinary families as they face up to what it means to live in America. The music by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty is extremely diverse, with brass band marches, to waltzes and period parlour songs.
The performance of Ragtime this week by the Weston-Super –Mare Operatic Society, has given patrons a rare opportunity to enjoy this excellent piece.
