‘Allo ‘Allo success in Glenrothes

We love to get feedback from our shows and we were delighted to receive some very favourable comments from The Leslie Drama Group in Fife who hired our costumes for their recent production of ‘Allo ‘Allo.

The play was entered into the Full Length Play Festival and was adjudicated by Graham Parry with some very constructive and complimentary comments on the actors, scenery and of course the costumes.

“The costume team also did a marvellous job of dressing the actors in appropriate and effective clothing and really paid tribute to the original series. I liked the sense of German formality/intimidation through swastika armbands and leather jackets contrasted with the French peasants and resistance. I loved the use of familiar images from the show such as Michelle’s beret and overcoat and Rene’s black tie and white shirt”

A picture of the cast in costume was published in the Glenrothes Gazette, together with a write up on Leslie Drama Groups sell out performances.

Costumes for shows and plays

What a massive variety of plays and shows we have costumed this year!

We started the year with a selection of pantos including Old King Cole with the usual old courtiers and a few swash buckling pirates and Aladdin making use of our oriental style costumes.

Twist and Shout is set in the early 60’s and required a variety of 60’s shift dresses and swing back coats, together with a set of authentic looking Beatles suits.

School curriculum wartime productions included ‘Oh What a Lovely war’ which requires WW2 soldiers uniforms and a wide selection of different hats for the various characters. Our Country’s Good’ is set in 1800’s Australia where the British soldiers wear the red tunics and white trousers of the period. Our Journey’s end required our WW1 soldier’s uniforms for the trench scenes in the first world war.

Large musical productions we have costumed this year include Les Miserables which emulated the costumes from the film, Cabaret set in 1930’s Berlin, Bugsy Malone and the ever popular Sound of Music with Austrian style costumes, play clothes and sailor costumes for the Von Trapp children.

We have also supplied Victorian costumes for Oliver, medieval costumes for ‘The Life and Times of Shakespeare’ and a range of 1930’s elegant wear for a Miss Marple play and ‘Whodunnit’.

Our bespoke costumes are currently on tour with Townsend Productions with their new play ‘We Will Be free’ about the Tolpuddle Martyrs.

Thank you to all our customers for including us in your wonderful productions.

Buttons

Looking for a suitable topic for my new Pinterest page, I was struck by the variety and beauty of the buttons on so many of our garments.

We have a massive stock of quality costumes from all eras, from all over the world, and most of them have buttons of one sort or another.

From the military style brass buttons found on soldier costumes, police uniforms and military wear to satin covered buttons on period dresses, the more you look, the more you find.

There are unusual foreign buttons on traditional european costumes, whacky oversized buttons used on clown costumes, velvet buttons on victorian dresses and waistcooats, and not forgetting London's famous pearly buttons for pearly kings and queens.

Check out some beautiful buttons on our facebook page, picasa and on Pinterest.
