The Wind in The Willows

The wonderful story and prose by Kenneth Grahame tells of the adventures of stay at home Mole, who after spring cleaning his house, visits the nearby river for the first time.

He meets Ratty the water rat, Badger and Toad and has great times aboard Ratty’s boat on the river with his new friends.

Toad has a habit of wreckless driving and irresponsible living and he consequently loses his home, Toad Hall to the wicked Stoats and Weasels.  The four friends battle together to regain Toad Hall.

We have some great costumes for this fabulous play, from Toad in his plus fours and driving goggles, Mole in suede waistcoat, velvet breeches and glasses, Weasel in a gangster suit, to Ratty in his striped blazer and boater.

From treasure to Bollywood – another fun week at Admiral

Admiral Costumes store was the final destination for the Newton Longville treasure hunt.  A series of clues led 6 teams around the village to collect seven letters of an anagram that had to be solved to reveal the location of the treasure.

Two teams were neck and neck and came in store to solve the final clue on a combination on lock on our treasure chest.

A Bollywood party in neighbouring Stewkely brought in customers in search of Indian sari’s, robes and pantaloons.  We even supplied a pith helmet and gun to shoot the lion!

Later in the week, a large collection of French revolution style costumes including 13 prostitutes, French police and ball dresses for the French ladies went out for a college production of Les Miserables.

United We Stand started their tour of the UK with a preview at Leighton Buzzard Library Theatre. Superb performances and great musical score ensures the success of this new piece which uses a selection of our 70’s every day wear.

1940’s events are still popular, with nurses, RAF uniforms and Land army girls proving a favourite choice for our customers.

We finished the week with a first costume fitting for Wind in the Willows and put together a Hagrid costume for a school visit to The Harry Potter studios in Leavesden.

United We Stand

'Townsend Productions' new play, UNITED WE STAND, combines grand theatrical style and wit with popular and political songs from the early seventies.

The new play written by Neil Gore and with music by John Kirkpatrick, tells the true story of the 1972 Builders strike and the subsequent prosecution of the Shrewsbury 24

With minimalist set and superb performances from the two cast characters depicting Ricky Tomlinson and Des Warren, the compelling dispute is brought to life in a powerfully challenging and entertaining way.

The very real 70’s atmosphere, combined with the surreal ‘media circus’ sets the scene for the portrayal of the miscarriage of justice which resulted in Ricky and Des being given prison sentences.

The events surrounding the strike are still making headlines to this day, and forty two years on, the high-profile Shrewsbury 24 Campaign, led by picket turned actor, Ricky Tomlinson, is still seeking to overturn the unjust prosecution of the 24 building workers.
