October Variety

What a fantastic variety of costumes we have worked with this month, from the glitz and glamour of Strictly Florence, Old Tyme romance from the 1890’s music hall, through to the poverty of Charles Dicken’s Oliver Twist.

The Sound of Music, ever popular, led us to supply costumes for two very different productions which included 23 nuns and 27 tyrolean outfits, complete with lederhosen and national style cumberbands.

We were delighted to provide some really glamorous and glitzy costumes for Strictly Florence where 12 couples trained with professional dancers to compete in a competition held at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. Anything and everything sparkly was great for this and the fringed 20’s flapper dresses looked magnificent on stage.

The opening scene in Tommy includes some airmen landing by parachute and we were pleased to supply a set of RAF costumes for a fantastic production of this show in Bedford.

We also had a great time putting together a superb set of costumes for Oliver Twist and thoroughly enjoyed the show in Dunstable.

Leighton Buzzard Town Council held a European day with a French market and the staff dressed up in a variety of costumes from all around Europe. Greece, Germany, England and Spain were all represented with some fun and spectacular outfits.

Now it’s Halloween and we have a great selection of spooky costumes for hire and accessories to purchase on-line www.admiralcostumes.co.uk

A big thank you to all our customers and the wonderful photos you send us.

James Bond glamour

James Bond is a popular choice for themed parties and corporate events, especially over the Christmas party season.

The more adventurous can choose characters from the films, like Gold Finger in his white military suit, Oddball in his bowler hat, M in her smart business skirt and jacket, Jaws in a billowing shirt or a bond girl in a revealing dress.

For those reluctant to dress up in character, there are masses of gorgeous and glamorous evening gowns, tuxedos and business suits to choose from.

Admiral costumes have a huge selection of gowns in all sizes and colours with diamante accessories, elbow length gloves and headdresses.

Dressing Gowns, Negligees and Smoking Jackets

Most dramas and plays involve a bedroom scene or farce, requiring memorable night attire, ranging from frilly nighties and housecoats, to over the top negligees and garish pyjamas.

The traditional British sense of humour gains a great deal of amusement from seeing characters out of their usual daily attire and in their night clothes, the more ridiculous the underwear or nightwear the better. The use of night caps, sock suspenders, hair rollers and nets, brightly coloured socks all adds the element of fun.

In 1930’s ‘whodunnit’ type plays, there is generally an intruder and all members of the cast have to appear in elegant period negligees, dressing gowns or smoking jackets.

In The Sound of Music, Maria and the children all have lovely white  Victorian style demure cotton nightdresses and Scrooge spends most of his time on stage in a nightgown and cap.

From Margot Ledbetter in her 70’s floaty housecoats, Sybil Fawlty in her over the top frilly bedcoat and Wendy in Peter Pan, nightwear is still an important element in costuming a show.
