From Panto to Semi-Monde

We have costumed some great productions this month utilising our huge range of costumes for many eras and styles.

Red Riding Hood had a mix of traditional panto wear with Granny Hood, Jack and a wicked wolf with wig and mob cap disguise. This was in contrast to the other characters set in present day with the three little pig property developers in modern day suits.

Aladdin was a riot of colour with the young cast wearing some gorgeous chinese jackets and silk dresses with top knots and coolie hats. Rich jewel colours were used for Ebenezar and the emperor with Aladdin in both poor and rich Chinese costumes.

Bugsy is set in the 1920’s gangster period with stripe suits, trilby’s and bright flapper dresses for the show girls.

It was great to supply a set of fantastic 50’s wear for a local production of Grease with lots of beautiful prom dresses and colourful Teddy Boy jackets.
Semi-Monde is set in the elegant 1930’s with lots of day and evening wear, furs and tons of accessories.

We have really enjoyed putting costumes together for these shows and look forward to more productions next month of Grease, The Sound of Music, Les Miserables and Bugsy Malone.

Costumes for Pantomime

It’s panto season on the Am Dram circuit and this year we have had great fun with Aladdin and Red Riding Hood.

Red Riding Hood versus the three little pig property developers was wittily written by talented member of Caddington Amateur Dramatic Society (CADS), Lou Treleaven.

With strong performances by Tony Slythe as Dame Granny Hood and other members of the group, the local pantomime reflecting local issues was enjoyed by everyone.

Thank you to the CADS team for sending us these wonderful pictures of our costumes in action.

Costumier Variety

A very busy start to the year with a gorgeous set of bespoke costumes prepared for a production of The Tempest, performed in Greece. Set in medieval style, rich fabrics were used to create some stunning and opulent costumes.

Our first show of the year was The Wizard of Oz, produced by a local group, The Square Drama Circle in Dunstable. We had great fun providing costumes for Dorothy, the Lion, Scarecrow, Tin Man and an Emerald City Guard.

The Wizard of Oz was quickly followed by school productions of Bugsy Malone, The Sound of Music, Grease and Oh What a Lovely War, with costumes being shipped as far away as Belfast.

We now have several local pantos coming up, with original and topical writing from the talented casts.

Aladdin will feature a fantastic selection of beautiful oriental style costumes for both adults and children.

Red Riding Hood versus the Three Little pigs property developers is set in a modern style with a panto dame that cannot stop eating cakes and Goldilocks in a biker jacket.

We are excited about providing costumes for semi-Monde, a play by Noel Coward, costumes for the school competition, Rock Challenge and some bespoke medieval style dresses for a photo-shoot emulating the Chronicles of Narnia.

Costumes for Grease

The ever popular musical Grease, written in 1971 by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, is an excellent choice for school and amateur productions with a fun script and lively musical numbers.

Set in Rydell High School during the 1950’s, it tells the story of teen greaser Danny Zuko falling in love with Australian wholesome good girl Sandy Olsson.

Danny is the leader of the T-Birds black jacket greasers and Sandy joins the Pink Ladies gang led by Betty Rizzo.

We have a great set of costumes for this show including T-bird and Pink Lady jackets, Teddy boy suits and a fantastic selection of 50’s wear, pedal pushers, circular skirts, net petticoats and spot dresses.

Other characters in the show include Frenchy with her pink hair and beauty salon attire, Teen angel in his white jacket and silver waistcoat, and Vince Fontaine in his bright Teddy Boy drapes and brothel creepers.
