Costumes get everywhere

What a wonderful and varied time we’ve had here at Admiral Costumes this week.

We’ve had three sets of Sound of Music Costumes  on hire with various drama groups and schools, with more individual costumes being hired for the popular Sound of Music singalongs, that are taking place all around the UK.

The twinning association in Newton Longville are holding a Waterloo night and we have been putting together some Abba costumes for their musical entertainment.

We have received some lovely photos from Dunstable Rep from their superb production of The Hollow last week. This is a great Agatha Christie play set in a 1940’s English country manor.

Our Mr Tumniss appeared on Come Dine with Me this week and can be seen on U-tube – you can follow the link here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ai_-pY03zHk

We are now looking to meet more WI members who are celebrating 75 years this month with themed events all around the country.

Guys and Dolls - costumes with style

Guys and Dolls remains a popular choice for school productions and many drama groups due to the large number of members that can be part of the cast. Guys and Dolls is a great Broadway musical written by Damon Runyon with a strong story line, great characters and wonderful music and lyrics by Frank Loesser.

Set in 1950’s New York, it tells the story of Sergeant Sarah Brown, of the Save a Soul Mission, who is vainly trying to spread the Word, and make a difference to the sin and depravity on the local streets, that are full of tipsters, gamblers and con men.

The central characters are Adelaide, who is a showgirl who is desperate to settle down and Nathan Detroit, trying to find yet another new location for his floating dice game.

Admiral Costumes have a great selection of 50’s style clothing suitable for this production, from the news seller, chorus girls and gamblers to the missionaries and the band.

We have American police officers, American suits, gangsters, ladies suits, show girl dresses, circular skirts, net petticoats and trilby’s suitable for large productions.
Recently added to the collection specifically for this production are 11 farmarette showgirl costumes and a set of hotbox minks, dresses and rip-off skirts for the Hot Box, Throw Down Your Mink number.

Do give us a call if you are putting on this show and let us help you make your show special.

Clowning around - Vintage Circus Style

When I rediscovered a rail of vintage circus wear tucked away in my store, I was blown away by the beauty of the items and the loving care that had been taken in making them. Mostly hand- made for show girls and far too small for most amateur theatre productions, they were just begging to be used for creative still life or a photo shoot.

The first person I thought of was Janice Issitt, talented photographer and stylist, who immediately shared my enthusiasm for creating a circus inspired photo-shoot. Janice’s talent for creating superb sets and images has not disappointed and we now have an impressive portfolio of inspired vintage circus images that we can both use to good effect for promoting our businesses.
