Oklahoma Costumes

Everyone loves Oklahoma the first musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein based on the play by Lynn Riggs, ‘Green grow the Lilacs’.

Set in a town called Claremore in Oklahoma territory the tale is of the romance between Cowboy Curly McClean and farm girl Laurey Williams, and Will Parker and Ado Annie.

This is a great opportunity for the cast to wear lots of cowboy style clothes, checked shirts, leather jackets, stetsons, dungarees, cowboy boots and of course gun belts and spurs.

The girls have long dresses in keeping with the period in gingham checks, petticoats and bonnets, with some lovely posh frocks and wedding dresses for the final scene.

Other characters include Jud Fry, the hired farm hand, Aunt Eller, Ali Hakim a Persian peddler and Gertie the farm girl.

For an excellent selection of gingham wear and extensive choice of leather waistcoats, chaps and wild western clothing, call us at Admiral Costumes for more information and a costume list.

Strictly Admiral

Movie Night on the third week of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing competition saw our Sound of Music curtain costumes feature in the opening sequence.

Our gypsy blouses teamed with skirts and headscarves made from floral curtain fabric were worn by glamorous contestants Claudia Fragapane and Louise Redknapp, whilst the boys Ore Oduba and Danny Mac looked as gorgeous as ever in frilly shirts and lederhosen in matching floral print.

Although on set for just a few seconds, it was truly fabulous to see our costumes in action and worn by the stars.

Ore in particular loved the lederhosen ‘I didn’t want to take it off!’ he tweeted.

My Fair Lady

The fabulous musical My Fair Lady is based on ‘Pygmalion’ by George Bernard Shaw and tells the rags to riches story of Eliza Doolittle a cockney flower girl who undertakes speech lessons with Professor Henry Higgins.

The rather pompous Colonel Pickering makes a bet with the professor that Eliza will never be able to pass as a refined Victorian lady, but she fools them all including young aristocrat Freddy Eynsford, who falls madly in love with her.

At Admiral Costumes we have an excellent range of quality Victorian wear suitable for this production. Lovely costumes for the poor market traders, cockney flower girls and barrow boys to the refined ladies and gents.

We have a superb selection of black and white ladies dresses, skirts and tops with matching hats and parasols for the Ascot scene, with grey top hat and tails for the gents in all sizes.

For more information on our Victorian wear and costumes for My Fair Lady call us on 01908 372504 or visit www.admiralcostumes.co.uk
